Eden HD - quality!

Those who dismiss Virgin Media's recent HD additions as "cheap rubbish" should perhaps pay a visit to Eden HD (209) which I tuned into last night for a Brian Cox marathon.
Sure, it is wall-to-wall nature documentaries and science repeats from the BBC but they are in the main utterly fab and gorgeous in high def.
Also, the new HD channels are free to all customers not on the XL TV package until the end of October (Eden, Good Food, Watch and Dave - those last two arriving this week)

Didn't think I would be interested in this channel till I saw wonders of the solar system - gorgeous high def!!

As I said before, Atlantic maybe in high demand, but let's not discount other HD channels that come our way!

According to my good friend Media Boy Dave HD will launch on Monday October 10th. Watch HD is set to launch on October 12th. Alibi HD hasn't launched on Sky or VM yet but will appear early in 2012.

Could Alibi HD launch when series 4 of Castle returns in Q1 2012 ?

I'd sooner the BBC just made their science archive available in HD on iPlayer instead of selling it to repeat channels like this.

To me these channels are parasitic. They produce virtually no content of their own and instead live off the archive of actual programme makers. Where would UKTV be without the BBC? They wouldn't exist.

It needs to be looked at the other way round - where would the BBC be without the income from their half of the income generated by Eden, Watch, Dave, Gold et al?

@Morobishi: M-UK is right. Don't forget that UKTV is 50% owned by BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the corporation so it's a way of the Beeb making additional revenues from its programming rather than someone else leeching off Auntie.

"I tuned into last night for a Brian Cox marathon."

Had that been a marathon of dramas starring actor Brian Cox then you'd be talking!

Don't float my boat, I'm afraid.
